Father Romano Zago’s Aloe Arborescens cancer recipe. Five years or more ago I came across the Aleo Vera cancer treatment attributed to a Franciscan Monk. At that time I had just come into possession of a giant Aleo Vera plant. The owner was moving to New Zealand and “Betty” needed a home.
I also was in the midst of a relapse of fNHL and so the natural thing to do was look up the medicinal qualities, as it applies to cancer, of the Aleo Vera Plant. I came across the intriguing story below.
Nothing to lose, I followed the recipe and whipped up a batch (using 100 proof vodka) following the formula. Over six weeks I made several batches and took it faithfully morning and night. During the same period I was following a complicated alternative regimen which successfully put me back into remission. (detailed elsewhere) However, I didn’t include the Aleo Vera in my write-ups for a couple of reasons.
The first was I became aware of a multitude of Aleo Vera varieties and I wasn’t comfortable that “Betty” was of the same or similar variety used in the formula. (Google the difference between Aloe Arborescens and Aloe Vera Barbadensis.)
Secondly, my gut wasn’t telling me the Aleo Vera had been a significant contributor or player in my regimen. Thus I let it go and never accosted “Betty” again.
Recently, I met a friend on Facebook that is involved in cancer research. He volunteered they had done a recent study on the Aleo Vera plant and offered to email me a copy. Imagine my surprise when the formula they used to process Aleo Vera for patients turned out to be the Franciscan Monk’s.
Who Is Fr. Romano Zago?
Born in Brasil, in the town now called Progresso on the 11th of April 1932. Romano Zago had Italian ancestors and as an eleven-year- old he entered the Seraphic Seminary of St. Francis of Taquari where he later finished his studies. He became a novice in 1952. He studied philosophy at Daltro Filho and Teology at Divinipolis, in Mato Grosso. He was ordained a priest within the Order of the Minor Friars.He was soon to be nominated professor within the seminary of Taquari where he had started his studies. In 1971 he also graduated in literature and started teaching French, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin in the various institutes of his order. In 1991 he was invited to render his services in Israel where he went on to teach young people. Today he lives and works in Brasil, where he returned following his mission in the HolyLand.
An extraordinary “Drink”
It was in Israel that Fr. Romano elaborated his discovery. The aloe vera, or Babosa, present in abundance in the region, is the raw material on which he focused all his attention in his free time. “Ï already knew the plant-declared later the religious man- in Brasil. My mother used to give it to us as a soothing agent when, as children we used to get hurt while playing or for other minor occasions where physical problems crept up. However, at that time, I had never suspected that such a small and diffused plant could have such great healing powers”.
Mixing together the syrup obtained from the juice of aloe leaves, bee’s honey and grappa would result in a composition with extraordinary healing powers. His first patients, to whom Fr. Romano gave some doses of the drink, were citizens who indistinctly came from Christian, Hebrew or Muslim background.
The research of Fr. Romano Zago is published in the popular magazine “Terra Santa” and in other significant specialised magazines. It meant the beginning of the Franciscan Friar’s fame as the inventor of a longer life. Once back in Brasil in 1995, Fr. Romano Zago further divulged his formula and started to dedicate himself without interruption to his experimentation and to the cure of the most seriously ill and desperate. Convinced by the numerous extraordinary recoveries, he assembled all his experiences in one book “ O Cancer tem cura”(One can recover from cancer, Italian edition, Adle, Padova), in which Fr. Romano exposes in the simplest and clearest of manners, the practice of cure from the “disease of the century ” through his drink based on aloe. “Since some have cured themselves through the use of this simple and economic method, why not offer this same opportunity to more persons? This is my only objective,” explains Fr. Romano Zago in his book.
In this volume, among other chapters dedicated to explaining the power of this chemical mixture, there are also detailed answers to some of the most common questions that can crop up given the revolutionary nature of the product. A chapter that stands out is the one about the “Ïnternationalization of the Formula”. In this chapter one finds a detailed explanation about how the aloe-based mixture has been welcomed in many countries, acquiring dignity and fame as a method to achieve complete cure against serious diseases. There are also various witness accounts of people who underwent perfect recovery through the use of the above-mentioned mixture.
In 1993 Fr. Romano Zago conceded the authorisation to a Brasilian industry to produce his aloe-based mixture under his name. It is from this point onwards that the story of “Fr. Romano Zago’s Aloe vera” starts. This gave rise to the original drink according to the father’s ingredients which were then commercialised in many countries.
In that same year the Foundation Fra Romano Zago was institutionalised. This foundation is active in aiding persons in difficulty and in diffusing solidarity in general. It is also intensely active in the diffusion and in encouraging research on the healing powers of natural products, first of which would obviously be Aloe Vera.
How the father came up with his formula.
“Honestly, I don’t presume to be considered the creator or the inventor of this method. Even less likely is it that I would present myself as the pioneer, or as the first who successfully applied this formula with positive results. It would not correspond to the truth. Others, much before me, have had the right to be given this title.” ( Di Cancro si puo’guarire” Adle ed. Padova, pg. 5). With these words Father Romano Zago wants to underline the fact that he has been the one to make the formula known but he is not its inventor since, strictly speaking, the formula was also a product of the collective wisdom of the people with whom he worked and also a result of the teachings of other Franciscan Friars, first amongst whom Fr. Arno Reckzigel who was a provincial father during his office within the Rio Grande do Sul. The merit of Fr. Romano Zago, this humble but tireless Franciscan friar, is that of pursuing, with great determination and consistency, the diffusion of the aloe-based mixture. He was also the one to bring to perfection the same substance, firstly through the direct administering of the medicine to an infinite number of people. The latter sought his help desiring to obtain at least a little hope of recovery from the “illness of the century” for themselves and for their families. He also gave exposure to the aloe mixture through various publications which drew attention towards Fr. Romano Zago’s formula of aloe vera in the West. One of these is “Ö cancer tem cura”, the book whose Italian edition is by Adle editions of Padova with the title “Di Cancro si puo’guarire”.
Why these ingredients
The particularly successful formula was a result of its three ingredients: first and foremost aloe, then honey and also grappa.
Why choose these ingredients; how come honey and grappa (or cognac and brandy) to accompany the properties of aloe? “The answer is simple” says the same Fr. Romano. And in fact the reason is straightforward. Honey, always counting on bee’s honey, natural and not added with artificials, has the ability to convey the healing faculties contained in the aloe juice to the remotest receptors of our organism, allowing the mixture to have an over-all beneficial effect.
As regards grappa, the latter enlarges the blood- vessels facilitating the general purifying action of the organism. In this way blood can be purified, eliminating the infected substances. Furthermore, the human organism would not integrally absorb the viscous liquid rich in elements like aloina which would flow out when an aloe plant is etched, without melting the latter in distilled liquids.
How to prepare the mixture and when should it be taken – the reactions of our organism
And here is the definitive formula of Aloe Vera by Fr. Romano Zago.
Half a kilo of bee’s honey (biological honey of acacia)
40-50 ml (approximately 6 teaspoonfuls) of distilled liquid (Grappa, Cognac, whisky, etc..)
350-400 grams of Aloe Vera/Aloe Arborescens leaves.
How is it prepared?
The answer is given by the same Father: “Take the thorns from the sides of the leaves and the powder deposited, making use of a dry cloth or a sponge. Cut the leaves in pieces (without removing the skin) and put these in the liquidizor together with the honey and the chosen distilled liquid. Liquidize well the mixture and it is soon ready to be consumed. The mixture is not to be filtered, nor heated but simply well conserved in the refridgerator inside a dark jar which would have been firmly closed”.
The dosage advised by the Father is of a tablespoon of the mixture half an hour before every one of the three main meals. The mixture should be shaken before used. Once the first jar is finished, it is advisable to undergo a medical check-up to understand what stage the illness has reached. Based on the doctor’s feedback and following a few days of break, one can repeat the cycle of cure, until the complete elimination of the cancerous elements is achieved. The aloe used has to be a mature plant, thus at least four years old and it is important that honey is of excellent quality and above all natural, because of its characteristic as carrier of beneficial substances contained in aloe. As regards side effects as a result of aloe, Fr. Romano Zago points out that the latter should not frighten anyone. They represent in fact the expulsion, the complete liberation on the part of the organism of impure substances, and above all, when verified, have a limited duration of one to three days maximum. Those who take the aloe-based drink can thus experience skin rashes, diarrhoa or, in more serious cases, vomiting; but all, according to Fr. Romano, indicate that one is on the road to recovery.
And that the efforts made would start reaping fruits . All can make use of the chemical mixture, even if the latter is not advised to pregnant women because of their particular condition.

BACKGROUND: The recent advances in the analysis of tumor immunobiology suggest the possibility of biologically manipulating the efficacy and toxicity of cancer chemotherapy by endogenous or exogenous immunomodulating substances. Aloe is one of the of the most important plants exhibiting anticancer activity and its antineoplastic property is due to at least three different mechanisms, based on antiproliferative, immunostimulatory and antioxidant effects. The antiproliferative action is determined by anthracenic and antraquinonic molecules, while the immunostimulating activity is mainly due to acemannan. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A study was planned to include 240 patients with metastatic solid tumor who were randomized to receive chemotherapy with or without Aloe. According to tumor histotype and clinical status, lung cancer patients were treated with cisplatin and etoposide or weekly vinorelbine, colorectal cancer patients received oxaliplatin plus 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), gastric cancer patients were treated with weekly 5-FU and pancreatic cancer patients received weekly gemcitabine. Aloe was given orally at 10 ml thrice/daily. RESULTS: The percentage of both objective tumor regressions and disease control was significantly higher in patients concomitantly treated with Aloe than with chemotherapy alone, as well as the percent of 3-year survival patients. CONCLUSION: This study seems to suggest that Aloe may be successfully associated with chemotherapy to increase its efficacy in terms of both tumor regression rate and survival time.
